Timber Unscramblers

Turning Chaos into Continuous Flow

Freshly sawn green lumber exiting the wet mill often arrives at the handling line in disorganized, tangled bulk piles. To automate downstream processes like scanning, sorting, and stacking, these boards must first be separated and lined up. Pinnacle SA’s Timber Unscramblers are heavy-duty singulation systems designed to receive bulk piles of wet lumber and efficiently arrange them into a single, orderly layer.

Engineered specifically to manage the heavy weight, high moisture, and sticky sap of unseasoned timber, our unscramblers eliminate costly manual separation and keep your wet lumber handling line feeding at a profitable, continuous pace.

How It Works: The Singulation Process

The Timber Unscrambler acts as the mechanical gatekeeper of your wet lumber line. Bulk piles of timber are loaded onto the receiving deck. As the material moves forward, a series of heavy-duty, stepped lift chains—often designed in a “waterfall” or pocket configuration—gradually catch individual boards, lifting them away from the pile. The boards are separated from the mass and discharged one by one onto the subsequent conveyor, perfectly prepared for the next machine centre.

Key Features of Pinnacle SA Timber Unscramblers

  • Heavy-Duty Scalloped or Lugged Chains: Equipped with rugged, precision-engineered lift chains that securely grip wet, slippery, or irregular boards without slippage, ensuring reliable singulation.
  • Robust Steel Structure: Fabricated from thick, reinforced steel to withstand the continuous impact and weight of shifting bulk timber packs.
  • Variable Speed Control: Built with adjustable speed drives, allowing operators to perfectly synchronise the unscrambler’s discharge rate with downstream equipment like lug loaders or board scanners.
  • Customisable Capacity and Widths: Tailored to fit your sawmill’s specific production volumes and board dimensions, handling everything from thin boards to heavy cants.
  • Integrated Over-Turn Mechanisms: Features automated guards or reverse rollers to prevent double-feeding, ensuring that overlapping boards are gently tumbled back into the hopper before entering the main feed line.

The Strategic Benefits

  • Eliminates Manual Labour: Automating the separation of heavy green timber removes the need for operators to manually pull and untangle boards, drastically lowering labour costs and reducing workplace injuries.
  • Protects Downstream Equipment: By feeding boards individually and consistently, the unscrambler prevents log-jams, double-feeding, and mechanical stress on scanners, trim decks, and bin sorters.
  • Maximises Handling Throughput: Keeps your sorting and stacking lines running at full capacity by maintaining a constant, gap-free supply of timber to the high-speed sections of your mill.

Automate Your Lumber Infeed

Don’t let tangled timber packs bottleneck your handling line. Invest in a simple, solid, and affordable sorting foundation that keeps your production targets moving forward smoothly.
